Wrap your rascal...in 3D
Check out the new iPhone wrapper from Spatial View Inc. The Wazabee 3DeeShell wraps your iPhone and has a slide in lens to view video, pictures and games in 3D. If you don't see the need to wrap your rascal when it's in your own hand just check out their list of videos as well as some stunning content from Forenses. Did you leave the RealD glasses you poached from the theater at home? No worries, the 3DeeShell is glasses-free. When you're done, just slide the lens out for all your other mundane non-2D tasks. It comes in a few colors, however no news yet on whether it will be offered in glow in the dark, ribbed or lubricated versions. They also have a camera app and a couple others to manipulate and store your 3D photos.

Paradise affects...
This may not be breaking news but as this is a new blog I will be mining what I consider important bits of recent and sometimes ancient history. Joe Dante's (Gremlins) film, "The Hole", won the Premio Persol award for 3D at the Toronto Film Festival in 09'. It was up against big budget and high visibility films, "UP" and "Coraline." The film hasn't done as well as the producers had hoped, probably due to what some have said wasn't a strong screenplay so the fact that it won the 3D award says a lot about those in charge of stereography. That would be the boys at Paradise FX. They are as good as it gets, and it shows. They use their tools to enhance a film rather than draw attention to their use. As good as Coraline was, the 3D was pushed a lot further. Not saying that's bad or good, but as the technology matures, we are going to see more films going for a more reserved use which adds depth without drawing attention to itself. The more 3D I see, especially good 3D, the more I miss it when watching 2D. And that's the way it should be. Cameron seems to be on the same page. Props to Paradise FX for leading the charge.

3D Broadcast TV in your pajamas.
Better late than never, we are happy to announce that 3d will be broadcast sooner than anyone had anticipated. Discovery Channel and ESPN have both announced that they will be broadcasting in 3D. ESPN has named a date and the events. FIFA soccer in June will kick off over 85 events they plan to broadcast in 3D. I Can't wait to post up in front of my Panasonic 100" 3D tv for front row seats. Discovery Channel's announcement is a partnership with IMAX and Sony which should mean some epic programming for 3D. They have not announced dates as yet and have issues with cable companies to hash out but soon we will no doubt be able to watch MacGillivray-Freeman's films in the comfort of our own underwear.
Naysayers continue to say people won't want to wear glasses at home. Barney's! We do it in theaters, why not at home? They obviously haven't noticed how much Panasonic, and Sony, and Samsung, and Hyundai etc. are spending on this market. They need to sit down in front of one of these screens and drink the koolade.
